School/Campus Based Aid

CAMPUS BASED - Check with the school where you hope to enroll for their deadline for submitting financial aid forms for any available campus aid. Each one is different.
Example:  Penn State University's deadline is February 15th so you must file the FAFSA by that date.

Check with the school you plan to attend for:
-Perkins loans (Campus based loans - only 5% interest)
-Work Study
-SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
-Scholarships

CSS Profile

You can complete the CSS PROFILE online profileonline.collegeboard.com.

When you register for the CSS PROFILE, you will need the PROFILE code of the school or program to which you are applying (see chart below).  For colleges outside of PA, use the link above.

Some private colleges encourage or require students to complete a CSS Profile in the fall of their senior year of high school in order for them to become eligible for private scholarship funds offered by the college.  The following PA colleges ask students to complete a CSS Profile:

Code

School Name

2049 Bryn Mawr College
2050 Bucknell University
2100 Curtis Institute of Music
2186 Dickinson College
2704 Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary
2261 Franklin and Marshall College
2275 Gettysburg College
2289 Haverford College
0430 Kosak and Associates
2361 Lafayette College
2365 Lehigh University
2418 Moravian College
2424 Muhlenberg College
2763 Rosemont College
2812 Seton Hill University
2820 Susquehanna University
2821 Swarthmore College
2926 University of Pennsylvania
2931 Ursinus College

The biggest differences between the CSS PROFILE and the FAFSA are:

  • Submission dates: The CSS PROFILE can be submitted in the fall; FAFSA cannot be submitted before January 1.
  • Specific questions: The CSS PROFILE contains questions specific to the school or program you're applying to; FAFSA contains the same questions for everyone.
  • Different methodology: The CSS PROFILE determines your financial need differently than the FAFSA, taking into account such factors as whether your family owns a home. In general, the CSS PROFILE asks for more detailed information than FAFSA.
  • Minimum student contribution: The CSS PROFILE requires this; the FAFSA doesn't.
  • Greater reliance on professional judgment: The CSS PROFILE gives financial aid counselors greater freedom to grant aid based on a student's particular circumstances.
  • Cost: CSS PROFILE costs $5 plus $18 for each school or scholarship program selected; the FAFSA, as the name implies, is free.
